Event Details

We will be walking 14 miles along the coast,  from Brighton to Worthing with a celebratory ‘finish line’ event to end the day with more fun and fundraising.  There will be comfort stops along the way, manned by our wonderful volunteers, who will replenish you with refreshments and cheer you along the way.

Finish Location: The Cricketers Pub, Broadwater, Worthing, BN14 9DE

Health & Safety and Legal Small Print

Walking of long distances can be physically demanding and you should seek advice from your GP before taking up a physical pursuit such as this.  On the registration form, you have agreed that you accept that you do so entirely at your own risk and that it is your responsibility to ensure that you are fit and able to take part in this event. 

 

Children under the age of 11 years old are the responsibility of their parents/guardians and need to be accompanied at all times before, during and after this event. 

 

The MileS for MS Fundraising Team and its volunteers do not accept responsibility for injury, loss or damage sustained by a participant unless the injury, loss or damage is proven to be as a direct result of negligence on the part of the organisers.


Worthing & Adur Councils and Brighton & Hove Councils have given us permission to hold this event and Sussex Police are also aware that the event is occurring.  We ask that you help us follow their rules and regulations of organisation by disposing of any litter appropriately along the route.

 

What to Wear and What to Bring on The Day

Traditionally with the English weather, we cannot predict whether it will be raining or bright sunshine.  In the build up to our previous sponsored walk in October 2011 we had advised people about wet weather clothing and to wear sensible shoes and ended up buying emergency sun cream on the hottest October day since records began! 

 

What we advise this time is to dress appropriately according to the weather on the day.  You will of course also be provided with your official MS Society T-shirt prior to the day.  Wear shoes that are comfortable for you to walk 14 miles in - be mindful that the length of this sponsored walk is just over half a marathon. 

 

Although water and refreshments will be provided, we recommend that you bring your own water bottle too.  It is important to remain hydrated throughout the walk and our previous events have shown that carrying a small rucksack with water in was easier than actually carrying the bottle.

 

With that in mind, you may like to bring a small rucksack or a large one if you are walking with friends and can share the load.  It is also somewhere that you can keep your phone and/or wallet on your person without it being in your pockets.

 

Directions & Parking at Start Line

​We are in the process of trying to arrange a transport service from various pick up points in Worthing to take participants to the start line in Brighton.  This will be at a cost to anyone who would like to use it but, until we have confirmation of whether this service is available and how much, we will be unable to confirm those details with you.  We will share any further news on this if and when we receive firm confirmation.

 

In the meantime, you can put BN2 5PB into a Sat Nav and it will take you to East Brighton Park, Brighton.  Due to the area being a landing spot for the Air Ambulance, parking restrictions have been introduced in the park including Pay & Display parking, double yellow lines and disabled badge holders parking spaces.  There is no guarantee that a space will be available so please leave with plenty of time to park a car.  Parking overnight is not recommended so we advise all participants to get a lift to the start line.

 

Alternatively, there are trains that can take you to Brighton but keep in mind that the walk from the station to the start line will add another 2.5 miles to your walking for the day!

 

Registration on the day

If you make your way towards The Pavillion Café in East Brighton Park, you will see our registration table and volunteers waiting to welcome you and provide you with your walker pack.  This will include your allocated participant number, first aid details, food vouchers and any other items you will need for the walk.

 

Registration will close at 09:45 to allow the MileS for MS Team to go through some health and safety details with you all and a group photo to be taken.  Please note that there will be over 100 people in the park for this event and it is important to have full co-operation from participants to ensure the safety of everyone involved in the event as well as members of the general public.

 

The walk will start promptly at 10:00 and you will start making your way back to Worthing!

 

​Comfort Stops


There will be 3 comfort stops for participants to refresh their water, get a snack and receive some encouragement from our lovely volunteers manning each comfort stop.  Information on the stops are as follows:

 

Comfort Stop 1 - Hove Lagoon (BN3 4LX) - Here you will be provided with a fresh water bottle and snacks.  There are also public toilets at this location.

 

Comfort Stop 2 - The Crown & Anchor pub (BN43 5DD) - The landlord of the Crown & Anchor pub has very generously agreed to provide a lunch of sandwiches and snacks for all participants.  All you have to do is your food voucher to a volunteer as proof of registration.  You will also be provided with fresh water here.  You can choose to sit down in our designated area to eat your lunch or carry on walking, the choice is yours. 

 

Comfort Stop 3 - Lancing Beach (BN15 8RA) - Here you will be provided with a fresh water bottle and snacks.  There are also public toilets at this location.

 

From Lancing Beach you will be on the home stretch and making your way to the finish line!

 

Finish Line

 

The finish line is being held in The Cricketers Pub in Broadwater, Worthing (BN14 9DE).  You will be greeted by cheers and given your medal before you can go and head to the bar and rest your tired feet.  Remember to invite your friends and family along for what is promised to be a fun filled evening raising even more money for the MS Society UK. 

 

We will be having a BBQ from 17:00 and all participants will receive their food free when presenting their food voucher.  Any other people who would like to have food from the BBQ will need to pay a small charge of £3.50.

 

There will be numerous activities going on throughout the evening including, but not limited to, a luxury raffle, guess the name of the bear, how many sweets in the jar and a darts challenge!

​General Information Regarding Route

There will be marshals throughout the course and directional prompts for you to follow.  Please ensure you remain on or as near to the route as you can due to permissions by local councils. 

 

First Aid


There will be 2 first aiders for this event who will be carrying a full first aid kit and life saving equipment.  You will be provided with their details and what to do in the unfortunate event of an accident at registration on the day.  They have all medical details that were provided on the registration forms including any medical conditions, allergies and medications.  If anything has changed since your registration, please notify us as soon as possible. 

Photography

​​There will be photography before, during and after the walk and also at the finish line event in The Cricketers.  We are delighted that everyone has agreed for these to be used as promotional material in future and shared on our social media pages and website.
